iTunes sells first film

iPod.jpgApple's iTunes Music store has put up it's first movie for sale and download. Is this the first sign of a fully fledged film download offering from Apple?

Perhaps so according to BetaNews

on Tuesday, with a Disney Channel original movie discovered for sale through the service. For $1.99 -- the same price as TV shows and music videos -- users can purchase "High School Musical." The movie runs 1 hour and 39 minutes, and weighs in at just under 490MB.

The rumours are rife that Apple has been negotiating deals to sell content through iTunes, so perhaps this is just the tip of the iceberg, or a small trial? Frankly though if I'm going to watch a film it's going to be on a big screen with surround digital sound, not a tiny screen the size of my hand in cropped stereo. Would you watch films this way?

I commute to work every day - a total of 50 mins on the train. I use this for reading but if I had the tech I would gladly use the time to catch up on movies. I hear there's a new video ipod in the works (bigger screen).

I've seen people watching PSPs on the train. Personally I'd like a gp2x, but then I'm a geeky looser!

Obviously I'd prefer to watch it on a big screen. But, with 2 kids, I'll grab my time where I can :-)

I'd much rather watch a film at home or on a huge screen at a cinema, I can see the appeal though if you're travelling a lot for work. Mind you I get travel sick reading a newspaper in a car so I might give it a miss.

Surely this would depend on the movie?

King Kong on a small screen? well they could call it Minny Monkey instead. Thats quite catchy..

i'd watch comedies, drama, documentries and horror movies on a small screen.

ok, so i'd watch the horror movies on a small screen so i was bigger than the nasty thing scarying me.

I'd agree with Dave there. I've got a PSP, but with UMD only available for purchase and a clear "no" to rentals it's just not going to happen. If I'm buying it's on DVD. Why the hell would you want to buy on UMD?

You only think I guessed wrong! That's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
