Craig didn't want Bond

Daniel Craig has apparently stated that he never wanted to play Bond...wait a minute, if that's true, why did he accept the role? It gets even odder with his statements that appear to prepare for a way out for him should Casino Royale fail, from Digital Spy:

"I never really wanted to do James Bond," announced the 38-year-old, whose casting has upset some hardcore fans. "Don't get me wrong, I want to make big movies and I want to make as much money as I possibly can, but there's not a tremendous emotional challenge."
The star is also afraid he will be criticised if Casino Royale is unsuccessful. "It's a dodgy place to be walking," he commented. "I don't really want to get the rap for destroying the franchise."

None of the signs have been good for the return of Bond, I have yet to hear something that makes me sit up and think that we might see an entertaining movie, just a lot of talk and over hype. Now I think Craig is just stepping back from all that ever so slightly.

If Stallone is back as Rocky then perhaps someone should give Connery a phone...

It is interesting isn't it, and yet I just caught a report saying that he's giving a 150% because of criticism...I'm confused what the messages are coming out, and I wonder if it's not all just a mess of hype at the moment.

I like Daniel Craig and I really didnt mind him playing 007. Although on hindsight, Mr. James Purefoy who I now admire so much, who also auditioned the same time that Brosnan got the role would have been the perfect choice.

its most boys(and some girls) biggest fantasy.

Travel around the world in style, with flash sports cars and fancy gadgets. not to mention having more one liners at your disposal as comebacks....

oh yes, and theres the girls.

if he didn't want to play bond then he should have rung me.... i'm on 0800 in-my-dreams

how cool that he admitted he's doing it for the money. i'd rather have daniel craig typecasted as bond instead of some actor i really admire. yay, i'm mean!
