Del Toro as Wolfman

BenicioDelToro.jpgBenicio Del Toro is a fine actor and has bags of style and charisma, but without being prompted I would never have bagged him for the role of The Wolfman. One thing at least, in the remake world Hollywood are turning their eyes to projects which might actually benefit from a remake, this film is from 1941 starring Lon Chaney Jr. as the aforementioned Mr Wolf.

According to Variety through Rope of Silicon Del Toro is a collector of Wolfman memorabilia, and just looking at him and the way he can carry himself, they suggest he could be a perfect fit for the role. You know what, once you think about it, they're spot on, he would be perfect in the role.

Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en and 8MM) is writing with Del Toro and Walker Producing.

...set in Victorian England. Del Toro will play a man who returns from America to his ancestral homeland, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence. Walker spent several months working on some frightening new twists to a familiar tale, adding several characters and plot points that take advantage of cutting-edge visual effects technology.

Look forward to a Summer 2008 date though...it's a long way off.

That's a great casting (bad pun) decision.

Although the news of 'cutting-edge visual effects' probably means its going to be guff. Why can't he just fall down (off camera) and pop up with a bit of hair on his face. Grrrrrrrrr.

'another' werewolf movie..... yawn yawn yawn.

Unless... they have a proper script, use special effects quickly. i.e. i don't mind watching the man change to the wolf and back again, but just do it quickly or think about the shots properly.

don't: just film a guy standing in a room/graveyard/tanning salon who then changes into a wolf...zzzzzzzzzz.

Do: film a guy in a dark forest changing quickly into a werewolf, and be clever about it. i.e. Wallace and gromit wererabbit change.

And make the film dark, very dark. no fancy hollywood lighting. sometimes its scary if we don't see some of the transformation(off screen perhaps like dave suggests..)

I remember a reference being made to Wolfman in the rom-com film "He Said, She Said" starring Kevin Bacon & Elizabeth Perkins, didnt know it was actually a film.

Oh wow Simone! I remember that movie...that was a good laugh.

Rich, I am not surprised youve seen that film too, it's one of the more underrated rom-coms really, but is it the same Wolfman we are talking about here too that Baconmade the reference too?
