Haggis on Al-Qaidi project
I'm a big fan of Paul Haggis, and Crash was just testiment to his superb writing skills. Now it looks like he's set to tackle more meaty projects, this time in the guise of the US Government, the Director of the CIA and the efforts to destroy Al-Qaidi both before and after September 11th.
I'm pages away from finishing the official 9/11 Commission Report book, and there's a lot in there about Richard Clarke and his efforts within the CIA to try and take the organisation apart well before the events of September 11th. However, as with so many of the warnings and possibilities before that fateful day, his suggestions were not acted on.
From Hollywood Reporter:
Based on Richard A. Clarke's best-selling memoir, "Enemies" chronicles how the Bush administration handled the al-Qaida threat before and after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Clarke, a former U.S. terrorism czar, offers the ultimate insider's account into the nation's security apparatus, featuring a cast of power brokers that includes President Bush, Condoleezza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld and Clarke.
It's interesting actually how much of that book is being taken and used for movies, but for me these sections could make for some of the most interesting and informative. With Haggis' writing talents involved I really am looking forward to this, and it's jostling with Flight 93 for my most anticipated film from the whole period.
