Pacino plays Herod

AlPacino.jpgIn what seems like inspired casting, Al Pacino is set to star as Herod in an LA production of Oscar Wilde's Salome.

From the BBC:

The film star will play the King who falls for his wife's daughter Salome, performed by Jessica Chastain, at the Wadsworth theatre from 14 April...Kevin Anderson, who was nominated for a Tony award in 1999 for Biff in Arthur Miller's Death of A Salesman, will star as John the Baptist, who is beheaded.

I think it's great that Pacino is still hungry for some real acting, especially at a time when he's playing the same character again and again on screen. Perhaps it might revive his desire to attack some new roles in film rather than taking the easy option?

WHY DIDNT I SEE THIS EARLIER?????

Sorry for screaming there, but I love this man! I love him before any other actor, and then this? I love that he still enjoys doing theater work even if I couldnt possibly get the chance to see it.

I suppose, with all due respect of course, that he thinks he will be too old to reinvent himself, but then we didnt expect Jack Nicholson to do what he did in "About Schmidt" so why couldnt Pacino do the same, well who knows?

Anyway, did you see him play Shylock in "The Merchant of Venice" Rich?

will be there for the play... thanks for the tip, richard.

How ironic too that here is another one playing Roman at your midst.

FREAKY that!

The critics? No, I have nothing but compassion for them. How can I hate the crippled, the mentally deficient, and the dead?
