Paul Schrader's Walker gets cast
Ever since I heard Paul Schrader talk at the Edinburgh Film Festival I've liked the man. He had a healthy amount of anger and bitterness about Dominion: A Prequel to Exorcist, and yet he was quite pragmatic, and what's more I liked the film. So it's interesting news to hear that he's not been that ignored in Hollywood as he thought he was, and that he's coming back with The Walker.
The film sounds really intriguing, here's what Rope of Silicon have to say:
Variety is reporting that Woody Harrelson is set to star in the title role in The Walker...rest of the cast...including Kristin Scott Thomas, Lauren Bacall, Ned Beatty, Moritz Bleibtreu, Willem Dafoe and Lily Tomlin with shooting set to begin next week in the U.K......Harrelson will play an escort of society ladies in D.C. Schrader said the character is his vision of what his "American Gigolo" protag would have become when he hit 50...Schrader saying, "His gifts are now more social than sexual. He's this society walker who has his lady friends, and a boyfriend on the side. [Harrelson's] wittiness is the initial point of entry for the viewer into a story which takes a dark turn. This will be quite a transformation for him, from the hairpiece and his manner to the clothes he wears"
Now this is interesting. Harrelson is a superb actor and I love seeing his performances, he really is an actor and not a movie star. He gets into his character and brings them to life onscreen, and that for me is really a dying art. In this film it seems as though he's going to be stretched again. Add to that Dafoe, Schrader, and that blurb, and I'm marking this on my list of films I have to see.
