Ridley Scott to direct CIA film
Continuing in the spate of movies about the CIA, US Intelligence and foreign assignments comes the talent of Ridley Scott in a film entitled Penetration.
From Empire comes the announcement:
Following a CIA operative sent to Jordan to shadow a known terrorist, the tale explores the uneasy alliance set up between the American spy and his foreign counterpart. The film will be based on the novel of the same name by David Ignatius.
This is obviously the next fad for the Studios, they're all clammering to make their own US Intelligence war on terror movie and while some take the direct look at September 11th, many more are turning to stories based around the US Intelligence Community and clandestine type activities. It's interesting to watch Hollywood saturate an idea like this, but at least we're getting the better end of the talent pool working on these movies so far...or are we? What do you think, is it another fad greeting us to a glut of mediocre movies on a tired theme?
