Stasi film for German Film Prize?
A new German film, Das Leben der Anderen, about the East German Stasi secret Police force (well not so secret!) is looking like it might pick up the German Film Prize as it runs with eleven out of fifteen nominations.
It's an interesting time for film, with so many stories that are looking right into the heart of our culture, society, and even ourselves, and not using a Hollywood sheen in the post production, and this more than any other story shows this.
From seattlepi.com:
It was nominated in categories including best film, best director and best actor for Ulrich Muehe. He plays a loyal Stasi officer who keeps surveillance on a leading playwright.
The award is set to be announced on May 12th. I just find this very fascinating, and although I've not seen the film the very subject matter is contentious, especially in Germany itself. This is undoubtedly a good time for film, and I'll have another story on this very topic in a little while.
