Affleck writing and directing Gone, Baby, Gone

BenAffleck.jpgI totally missed the fact that Ben Affleck is adapting and directing a thriller based on a Dennis Lehane novel called Gone, Baby, Gone, and really I'm not sure what to think of this.

To be honest I've never really enjoyed his onscreen performances, I can't think when I've gone "Oh yes, Affleck was good in that", and in Good Will Hunting he was just dire. No, I've never liked his screen performances, but what of his writing? How much did he do on Hunting, and can he carry off this big adaptation.

The story from Coming Soon combined with the IMDB listing for the film carry some interesting facts.

Ed Harris is on board, and Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan. The story goes something like this...

Based on Dennis Lehane's novel of the same title, "Gone, Baby, Gone" is a story about a two detectives in search of a 4 year old girl that has been kidnapped in Boston.

Harris is a huge talent which is a good sign, although chucking in a family member is always a fun thing, but is it a good sign? I don't know. Frankly I'm not really looking forward to it, although if Harris is in it he might draw me there anyway. Are you one of those Affleck can do no wrong people, or do you think he has a lot to prove here? Can he direct such weighty talent?

I used to like Ben Affleck but later on realised he not act to save his life, he was pathetic in Jersey Girl but I thought he gave quite a good performance in Sum of All Fears as the young Jsck Ryan. I know he has talent in writing and youre right, how much work did he put in on that? So who knows about this project but I might check it out.

Hey Rich, off topic now, but speaking of actors with directing skills, try watching some of Eddie Burns films that he also co-starred and directed in like "Brothers McMullen" (my favorite!) and "She's the One".

Affleck bad in Good Will Hunting? Odd, that's one of the few movies I point to and say that he really can act. Maybe that's because I've known and been around too many people like his character. It seemed all too familiar to me watching that movie so I feel like he did a nice job.

I thought he was funny in Shakespeare in Love.
