Battlestar Galactica original series continued?

BattlestarGalactica.jpgThe remade Battlestar Galactica series is stunning, there is no doubt, but there's always the charm and rememberance that goes with the original series, so it's with excitement that I found out a trailer was made for a continuation of the original series by none other than the original Apollo himself.

I have literally just finished watching the first series of the new Battlestar, and I have to say it's some of the most compelling sci-fi I've seen since Babylon 5, and some of the most compelling TV I've seen of late. It reminds me a bit of Space Above and Beyond, it has that kind of feel to it, but with such a wonderfully crafted plot. I honestly knew what was going to happen at the end of the series, but it was still edge of my seat time.

Yet we might not have come to this point if the plan of Richard Hatch, aka the original Apollo and now Tom Zarek, had come to fruition. Back in 1999, Hatch helped create a four and a half minute trailer for a rebirth of the Battlestar Galactica series called Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming. Unfortunately it has hardly been seen, but by all accounts it was pretty good.

I'm actually quite thankful, for the current series is stunningly good, and I'm hooked for series two. However Hatch thinks the rebirth of the first series would have just been as successful. In and interview with Dreamwatch Magazine, for which extracts can be seen through TrekWeb over at SciFiPulse.net, Hatch says...

A continuation would have evolved the original show: it would have updated the Cylons, brought new characters in and gone into equally provocative areas. We could have had Eddie Olmos as the Commander, Mary as President, Jamie [Bamber] as Apollo’s son, and Katee [Sackhoff] as Starbucks Daughter. And we would have loved to have brought Ron Moore onboard too.

He goes on to say that he thinks fans wouldn't have been disappointed with that series as they were with the current one at the beginning. What? There were people out there disappointed with this series? Fools. Mind you, I'd still like to see that trailer, wouldn't you?

Just acting in a movie you are practicing empathy; you are imagining what it is like to be another human being...and for an audience to sit together and share the experience of another person's hopes and fears...Just the simple act of attending a movie is a world bettering act; a social learning.
