This is great news for those worrying about the new formats. Over at Warner Brothers they have announced the first new generation disc to contain both the new format and the existing DVD format of a film on each side of the disc. That's great news for those wanting to buy now, upgrade later but not so good for those without a mortgage.

This new disc will be retailing at a daylight robbery price of 135% premium, $39.99. There are a few choice phrases going through my head and all of them suggest retaining posession of their new disc very tightly, safely, and in a dark place.

...hitting store shelves May 9. Rumor Has It (which I have never heard of) will contain a high definition version on one side and a standard definition DVD on the other...it will premiere on the same day as the standard definition release.

Yeah, that's really helping to win the format war. What the hell are the marketing people on both sides of this battle thinking? That we're idiots?
