Hayden Christensen in Crash Bandits

JohnMcTiernan.jpgYes, when I first read that at a glance I thought Crash Bandicoot, but no, ex-Vader is to star in Crash Bandits, an altogether different film.

A treasure hunter specializing in downed aircrafts finds himself chasing his arch nemesis, who is holding his fiesty ex-wife hostage, towards a critically missing treasure clue aboard a downed plane deep in the jungle.

...is how IMDB blurb the plot through MoviesOnline. It sounds like National Treasure combined with any Harrison Ford film. Perhaps I'm being too harsh, after all signed on alongside Christensen is Amber Valetta who gave us a...performance in Transporter 2.

Okay I am being too harsh, on board to direct is John McTiernan, whose films have been somewhat erratic since Die Hard and Predator.

The most interesting thing about this film is to see where Christensen goes from his overshadowing performance as the most evil being ever conceived.

Besides the fact Christensen is a better actor than John Cusack, the real interesting thing about this is John McTiernan. I am a fan of this man:

-Predator ROCKS!!! (Arnie!!!)

-Die Hard ROCKS!!!

-The Last Action Hero is very interesting.

-The 13th Warrior ROCKS!!! (If you don´t think so, you´d better watch it again)

And his masterpiece... The Hunt for the Red Octiber... bloody hell, great movie!

His career has been erratic because of The Last Action Hero disaster at box office. McTiernan has always something to say.

Basic
Rollerball
Medicine Man
Die Hard: With a Vengeance

I'd agree though most of those you mention are good films, I make that around 50/50.

A 50/50 is much more than many prestiged directors have achieved, like Tim Burton or John Carpenter.

Don't disagree Peter, but those titles do spell huge up and downs to me. He's either been superb or very mistaken.

I'd actually say I really enjoyed Last Action Hero as well! Then I'm odd anyway!

I think McTiernan´s career has something to do with the decadence of action films since the 80s. He does not quite find his place in the film industry nowadays. The same happens with Bruce Willis, Stallone, Arnie... and so on. It´s like that cinema is old fashioned. And McTiernan was one of the specialists in directing action cinema.

In fact, Last Action Hero was an irregular but enjoyable mock on the genre. He himself buried his grave. Quite ironic.

Now we have George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh... different times, different spirit.

It's a shame too, although you can't say you wouldn't want the new filmmakers, I really do hanker after the greatness of Predator. That is one of my all time fav's.

I am just excited about this news because of Hayden Christensen!!! Thanks again for this news Richard.

Peter, I wanna hug you after saying this; "Besides the fact Christensen is a better actor than John Cusack"- I do like them both though! ;-)

Hayden is also working on Poker Night opposite Sam Jackson, to be directed by Star Wars stunt coordinator Nick Gillard. Also slated for a 2007 release like Crash Bandits.
