Luhrmann's Australian epic stalls again
Unbelievably the Baz Luhrmann epic Australian film which is set to star both Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman seems to have stalled again.
From Reuters comes the sad news that both actors are onto other projects and the crew that had been hired to begin work on the project are departing.
Baz Luhrmann's untitled 1930s drama starring Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman, which was eyeing a September start date in Australia, has been pushed back to February because of scheduling conflicts and budget debates with 20th Century Fox, sources have confirmed.Crowe is set to reunite with "Gladiator" director Ridley Scott in July on Universal's "American Gangster," and won't be ready in time...Kidman, meanwhile, began work this week on writer/director Noah Baumbach's follow-up to "The Squid and the Whale."...Luhrmann...had begun hiring crew on his ambitious $150 million Australian outback saga, but they are now free to seek other employment. Fox declined comment.
Crowe still says he's talking to Luhrmann and that the project will go ahead despite the delays. At least it has been setback and not sent outback...oh dear. It's a shame though, I'm really eager to see more of Luhrmann's work, love it or hate it, it always has dazzling amounts of style and individuality.
Still, seeing Crowe and Denzel Washington directed by Ridley Scott in American Gangster has to be worth the wait...doesn't it?
