More X-Men spin off movies

ZakPenn.jpgNot content with two spin off movies from the X-Men franchise, it seems the Execs want more, and why not? Not content with the Wolverine and Magneto films it seems that there are more scheduled, and rumour is placing it a next generation of mutants to take up the franchise...although perhaps it's X-Men we've not yet seen?

From Superhero Hype comes a brief word with Zak Penn, who features in the next story too. He's been hard at work on many a superhero script and tells how he's not yet done.

Actually, I am contracted to write and direct one of the spin-offs," he told Superhero Hype! during a recent phone interview to talk about the video game. "One of the things about Hollywood is that it doesn't mean it's necessarily going to happen, but part of my deal was that I would get to direct one of the spin-offs. It's not going to be 'Wolverine' or the 'Magneto' one that they've announced. It's going to be one that I'm theoretically supposed to write. I just have to find the time to write it."...

... "The goal in the spin-off that I would do would be to use some of the preexisting characters, depending on actor availability, but ideally, to introduce the characters from the comic book world that haven't gotten their fair shot on screen. That's what I would shoot for. Every movie involves 50 other people's decisions, other than the writers, so it's always a battle."

There's quite a few ifs and buts in there, so by no means is anything set in stone, but this gives hope that those characters we didn't see in this film might yet get a chance at the big screen...Gambit anyone? Or, in a slightly more cash orientated manner, they could restart the franchise by going the next generation route...which way would you like to see this go? I'd prefer the unexplored characters, but I suspect the cash allure of a new franchise will see us with the new mutants.

This is a tricky subject. I can tell you that I have enjoyed the superhero movies, but on the other hand I am also disappointed in many of them because of the changes they make from the comics.

I know their movies, and changes need to be made. But it would be hard to say what characters are flexible enough with their background in order to toss them into a spin off.

Personally I would like to see "Age of Apocalypse" on the big screen. This was one of the last good stories of the X-Men before it all went to crap.

The issue with a story like this is how they would introduce it and provide background. I know we will never see Onslaught, and if Onslaught was referenced to show how the Age of Apocalypse began, then I know many fans who would be like "What the hell, why didn't you make an Onslaught movie then!?".

So this is tricky.

Well if films like Friday the 13th, Police Academy had so many, why cant X-Men - dont now if they will be able to sustain my interest though.
