No Arnie in Terminator 4?

Terminator.jpgIt looks likely now that the most we'll see of Arnie in Terminator 4 is in a cameo role, which for me is a huge shame.

According to The Guardian, the more the Producers speak the more they're backing down from previously saying he could be returning and they're just waiting to see, to there's not much chance and there's a cameo role if he can do it.

Andy Vajna, who produced the most recent film in the franchise, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, said: "We would like Arnie as a cameo.

"We want to go on with the Terminator and turn it into a real sci-fi picture - there is a very interesting role for Arnold if he wants it. But I'm not sure where he is with his politics - we'll see." The film is planned to go into production next year on Australia's Gold Coast but no cast or crew details have yet been released. Nevertheless Vajna says a script is in place and "we are now looking for a director and figuring out what the next step is"

I am quite frankly gutted, and the worst thing is if he says no to this you can almost guarantee that we won't see him in Conan either. Perhaps he'll take both as cameos just to get the cash in, but I doubt we'll see him back in a leading role.

Perhaps it's a good thing though, from all accounts the next installment will be as poor as the third, read on to hear the original idea for the fourth...

Back before the third film was made it appears that the Producers were looking at doing two films back to back and the fourth would follow on immediately after, the plan was...

T4 was supposed to be about Arnie's human character trapped in a life of total slavery along with his research team. Skynet forced them to invent the machine we all know and love. Arnie's character was then supposed to escape and help the resistance. The fact Arnie's character knew so much about Skynet and the machines ensured he was key to the survival of the human race making Connor quite redundant. It also brought into play that Arnie's character Terminator/scientist was the key figure central to both the destruction and survival of humans throughout the series.

I actually like the reversal of the key characters, that would have been a big surprise, but it was never to be and Bits of News tells us that was mainly down to not getting James Cameron on board to direct, and what a mistake that was.

I may harp on about this a lot, but getting the Terminator to walk into the strip club and put on those silly glasses at the start made a joke out of the character and ruined the entire tone of the film. Not to mention the bizarre behaviour of the female Terminator who decided she had to look to camera and announce her findings of a blood sample...Things like that all the way through just made a joke out of the whole series, so that the film ended up with a great idea, but a pathetic execution.

However Vajna does go onto say that they want to make this fourth one a true sci-fi film.

Yes...let me give you a moment.

The first two must have been romantic comedies with the second one an Airplane spoof...what are they talking about. The words CASH COW scream to mind.

Ehh, not looking forward to it.

T1 was good, T2 was, its up there with X-Men and Spiderman franchises as one of the greatest sequels EVER.

T3 just sucked. Just totally sucked.

I don´t agree.

T3 was better than expectable. I compare that part with the Planet of the Apes saga. It´s a leap forward, and don´t forget T2 it´s just a remake (and brilliant) remake of T1.

T3 is dark and mournful.

John Connor is a fatallistic character. The Terminator fights with his mother´s coffin in his arms. The Terminator is warning Connor that someday in the future he will betray him.

And the end, like "Escape from Planet of the Apes" (maybe an homage) is an unexpected apocalypse.

Add to that action sequences with that Terminatrix... and, besides some odd twists and mistakes, it´s a more than decent movie.

Nooo! All the plot explanation is crammed into a little scene in the camper van which is rushed, unclear and crammed full of everything. I didn't get it myself.

I agree the set pieces were big and fun, but that was all that lived up to the originals, they could have done so much more with the rich plot they had in their hands.

Interesting that you think T2 as a remake. Why so? The Terminator roles are reveresed which makes for an interesting twist. Sure Connor is under attack again, but the ante is upped. Straight sequel yes, remake? Mmmm...

T3 was an excuse to spend a lot of money on car chases and over done action with no real plot to speak of.

T4 will need to be rethought, not to a romantic comedy level however.

my opinion is that T2 was one of the best movies ever made. This surprised me since I honestly thought the first was actually kinda...well...lame. The third fell nicely in the middle, with me completely satisfied with the resolution.

I think they could still pull of the initial idea I just read for T4 and really should. If you watch the special features on the T3 disk, the character Arnie would have played was introduced and gave me quite a good laugh. Unfortunately, they turned this cameo into yet another Termijoke.

I really liked T3 though.

T3 has divided fans. I agree it´s not as good as the first two ones, but still. The thing is I didn´t expect too much, and it surpassed my expectations.

Well, Richard, indeed T2 is a twist on T1 idea, much richer. Yet I have the feeling that the story is a repetition of the same scheme. The nuclear threat is still pending, the war between machines and men at the beginning is a copy from the first, and there is a confrontation between Sarah and a robot to end with the future resistance leader.

Well, T3 follows a simillar pattern anyway LOL, but I find the ending, and some signs, to add on the saga. T4 must be a definite change in the overall plot design.

You know what, I loved T1 and T2. I was so excited to see T3 was being done and when it was finally release I even saw it on the first day, but I am not sure why I wasnt very thrilled about it afterwards. And without Arnie in T4, now I dont even know yet how to take that news!

1 thing is 4 sure,my good people:T2 really rocks,i think it's the very best from the franchise! all my best 4 Arnie...u know, even now,at his age,he could be the best, cuz after all,he is the true Terminator and he must BE BACK...so Arnold ma man,if u somehow see this text, please man, come back 4 T4,because nobody could replace u ever,no matter what might others say.U are the only Terminator and u need 2 get back in this role in T4,not for a cameo role, but 4 the one which brought u so high in the whole world, cuz ma man,u really are now a legend,so please, just come back 4 all this people who loves u and who wants 2 see u one more time and maybe for the last time in T4...we love u Arnold, don't forget that, and don't forget us...Thanks 4 all that u have done 4 us,U really are the best :) i wish u all the best...good bye!

Rumack: Captain, how soon can you land?
Captain Oveur: I can't tell.
Rumack: You can tell me. I'm a doctor.
Captain Oveur: No. I mean I'm just not sure.
Rumack: Well, can't you take a guess?
Captain Oveur: Well, not for another two hours.
