No Arnie in Terminator 4?
It looks likely now that the most we'll see of Arnie in Terminator 4 is in a cameo role, which for me is a huge shame.
According to The Guardian, the more the Producers speak the more they're backing down from previously saying he could be returning and they're just waiting to see, to there's not much chance and there's a cameo role if he can do it.
Andy Vajna, who produced the most recent film in the franchise, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, said: "We would like Arnie as a cameo."We want to go on with the Terminator and turn it into a real sci-fi picture - there is a very interesting role for Arnold if he wants it. But I'm not sure where he is with his politics - we'll see." The film is planned to go into production next year on Australia's Gold Coast but no cast or crew details have yet been released. Nevertheless Vajna says a script is in place and "we are now looking for a director and figuring out what the next step is"
I am quite frankly gutted, and the worst thing is if he says no to this you can almost guarantee that we won't see him in Conan either. Perhaps he'll take both as cameos just to get the cash in, but I doubt we'll see him back in a leading role.
Perhaps it's a good thing though, from all accounts the next installment will be as poor as the third, read on to hear the original idea for the fourth...
Back before the third film was made it appears that the Producers were looking at doing two films back to back and the fourth would follow on immediately after, the plan was...
T4 was supposed to be about Arnie's human character trapped in a life of total slavery along with his research team. Skynet forced them to invent the machine we all know and love. Arnie's character was then supposed to escape and help the resistance. The fact Arnie's character knew so much about Skynet and the machines ensured he was key to the survival of the human race making Connor quite redundant. It also brought into play that Arnie's character Terminator/scientist was the key figure central to both the destruction and survival of humans throughout the series.
I actually like the reversal of the key characters, that would have been a big surprise, but it was never to be and Bits of News tells us that was mainly down to not getting James Cameron on board to direct, and what a mistake that was.
I may harp on about this a lot, but getting the Terminator to walk into the strip club and put on those silly glasses at the start made a joke out of the character and ruined the entire tone of the film. Not to mention the bizarre behaviour of the female Terminator who decided she had to look to camera and announce her findings of a blood sample...Things like that all the way through just made a joke out of the whole series, so that the film ended up with a great idea, but a pathetic execution.
However Vajna does go onto say that they want to make this fourth one a true sci-fi film.
Yes...let me give you a moment.
The first two must have been romantic comedies with the second one an Airplane spoof...what are they talking about. The words CASH COW scream to mind.
