Onimusha game next for Christophe Gans?

SpaceInvaders.jpgIt seems that once you do one videogame film you're pigeon holed. Christophe Gans recently announced that he was working on another videogame adaptation after the Silent Hill movie, and now initial reports are claiming this is the game Onimusha.

Now, I haven't seen confirmations or sources yet, just the claim itself, but over at Dark Horizons they are saying...

Christophe Gans (Silent Hill)' next movie is an adaptation of the video game as all of his previous projects (Bob Morane, Rahan, Non coupable) are cancelled.

We'll have to wait and see if it really is true...I've never played Onimusha and wouldn't even know if it would make a good game. Anyone out there who has?

snooze.... wah...wa...huh? they're making an onimusha movie?

hmmm... wake me when it's over... mmm...zzzzz..
(nice touch, with the space invaders image. lol )

It would be difficult but if it could be pulled off seriously this could make a great movie. One thing the story has is scope.

In terms of adaptation from the game story, I hope they work on Onimusha 3.

The story invovles a demonic army called the "Genma" who have terrorized feudal Asia but held at bay by a lone warrior "Samonoske". When their invasion fails they move the fight to another front and time travel to modern day Paris to take over our world.

A cool twist is added that both our heroes,
the warrior "Samonoske" and a Parisian police officer "Jaques" (Played by Jean Reno!) are also sent through time. Samonoske to defend Paris and Jaques to defend Samonoske's homeland.

This really does work well as a story arc and I think is a great premise for a film, albeit slightly in need of a re-write.

Oh, and they should get Jean Reno back!!!!

"We'll have to wait and see if it really is true...I've never played Onimusha and wouldn't even know if it would make a good game."

Shouldn't that be "wouldn't even know if it would make a good film" ?

On paper, Onimusha should make a better film than Silent Hill. Considering the (in my opinion) fantastic job Gans did on Silent Hill, I'll be looking forward to seeing what he comes up with. Just don't let Avary anywhere near it - someone make sure he's kept busy on Driver.

Doh...yes Dan. Thanks for pointing out that slip up.

What do you think is wrong with Avary's work?

I think the script for Silent Hill particularly is terrible. It features some of the laziest exposition I've seen in a while, the Sean Bean sub-plot doesn't feel very well integrated, and some of the dialogue is poor. Luckily, Gans is a sufficiently talented director, and the production team do such a great job with the sets that the film still works.

Well I'll have a review next week, it'll be interesting to see how it is after the huge wave of hope then the mediocre release.

The gaming industry is making lots of money and this gives delusions of grandeur to some folk.

for them, making a movie is seeing as another avenue for revenue, but more importantly, is a way for them to SHOW what their game is about.

This movie wil be another bomb.....

a successful movie-based-on-a-game will come along soon. i predict driver will do that. Its lead character is cool, slick, a lady charmer and theres lots of fast cars and shooty shooty action.

ONIMUSHA MOVIE FROM SILENT HILL FILMMAKERS.

Christophe Gans and Davis Films alone with with Japanese film company GAGA Communications working on Onimusha from Capcom. The film should not have Jean Reno and the plot from Onimusha 3 in it.
It will be worse, the story will focus on the lone warrior played by Takeshi Kaneshiro as long as the Asian cast will star aloneside Kaneshiro in the film.
Any ideas if that Tim Burton could make the movie version of Megaman with a time travelling storyline,Megaman would be a rated PG for the live action movie.
I am not really into Onimusha series,I like the beat em'up games.
Thank You.

AUSTRALIA.

I played the Onimusha games, which is really cool. Oh, actually Takeshia Kenashiro was Samonosuke in the game. Well I'll make it clear. The first games features a lone samrurai named Samonosuke Akechi who is assisted by a female ninja named Kaede, who must rescue a princess kidnapped by demons called gemna, where he was granted with the power of Ogres (oni) to fight the genma and won, defeating there demon king, Fortinbras. The 2nd game features a samurai named Yagyu Jubei who seeks revenge on the Genma attack on his village. He also wields the power of the Oni and defeats the new Demon king Oda Nobunaga. The 3rd one you probably already know.
