Pena and Wahlberg in The Shooter

MichaelPena.jpgMichael Pena, who we last saw in his excellent role in Crash, is set to star opposite Mark Wahlberg in a coming film called The Shooter. The film sounds like the first 24 plot, I think it was the first, but what it does boast is Antoine Fuqua as director.

The Hollywood Reporter have the story carried through Coming Soon.

Wahlberg plays an ace marksman who is framed for a presidential assassination he was trying to prevent. He is forced to go on the run while trying to track down the real killer and find out who betrayed him. Pena will play the nemesis of Wahlberg's character.

I like both actors, Pena seems much the stronger though, his performance in Crash was stunning, and his work on The Shield has also been compelling. What grabs me on this project is Fuqua whose work has been so good on Tears of the Sun (DVD review) and Training Day...let's keep quiet on King Arthur shall we?

And I promise you I'll never desert you again because after 'Salome' we'll make another picture and another picture. You see, this is my life! It always will be! Nothing else! Just us, the cameras, and those wonderful people out there in the dark!... All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up.
