Porn takes to movie downloads

PCScreen.jpgAs usual we see the Porn Industry taking the lead in movie technology as Vivid Entertainment Group, one of the big Pornographic Production Studios, announced it is allowing customers to purchase movies to download and cut onto DVD.

From LA Times through IMDB:

"The simple fact is porn is an early adopter of new media," Paul Saffo, director of the Institute for the Future in Palo Alto, told the Times. "If you're trying to get something established ... you're going to privately and secretly hope and pray that the porn industry likes your medium." The newspaper said that other porn producers are also considering a similar move, expecting that the Internet will solve two of their biggest challenges, distribution and privacy.

They did it with cinema, they did it with videotape, they did it with DVD and multi-angle, and now they're going to beat everyone to it again and make a viable model with internet downloading. Give it a year or so and the Studios will give in and follow suit.

Richard,

You know I like and respect you, but it really bugs me that you continue to try to legitimize porn as just another movie genre with the occasional post.

I don't even see sites like joblo.com covering porn (although they have their share of pics scantily clad babes gracing the site).

Best regards,

Vic

Vic.

I make no personal statement as to the legitimacy of the Aduly Industry. It's without question that this Industry is the early adopter of Film Technology and it is undoubtedly used as a proving ground for the mainstream Film Industry.

There's the reason for posting these stories and those are the stories you will see, not "Jenna Jameson releases new feature starring...blah blah blah". I think that's perfectly fine and why you see it here.

Taste again, after all I stay clear of celebrity gossip, most other film sites seem to feel this goes hand in hand with movie news, and yet that has a more tenuous connection than the Adult Industry to the mainstream Film Industry.

Hey, it's your site dude. Personally, I just don't think it fits and I could be wrong, but I'll bet the vast majority of your readers wouldn't miss it if it wasn't here.

Best,

Vic

...perhaps, and the same could be said for many aspects of the news I write on - the post stats will tell me which is how I review successful stories - however if I hadn't written this people wouldn't know how the film download to own and burn to DVD model is actually being implemented and operated by an Industry that has time and time again dragged the mainstream movie industry with it.

Richard, i appreciate the news on the technology changes that affect how i will download movies.

Vic, i have to agree that i don't want to hear about movie news about porn either, but if its directly related to what media types/systems/futures for movies on a whole then and its posted accurately wihtout obviously trying to increase traffic flow then its definitely worth knowing about.
