Princess Bride gains new DVD release

ThePrincessBride.jpgI love The Princess Bride, really, it's so much fun, it's one of my most quoted films next to Predator and Airplane, go figure that one out if you will. So the news today has just made me extra happy as we discover that it's set for a new DVD release...in fact two new DVD releases.

From DVD Times comes the news of the two versions. They will be entitled The Buttercup Edition and The Dread Pirate Edition, one for the girls and one for the boys! The specifications are the same on both DVDs, and they do look attractive with double audio commentaries, including one from the author, and some interesting documentaries.

Take a look at the story for the full specs.

The Buttercup Edition will highlight the romance and fantasy of The Princess Bride and will appeal to families and female fans, while the Dread Pirate Edition will please the film's male and cult fans by embellishing its adventurous and comedic theme.

Features on both editions include…
Anamorphic Widescreen Presentation
English DD5.1 Surround
French and Spanish audio
English, French and Spanish subtitles
Audio Commentary by Director Rob Reiner
Audio Commentary by Author William Goldman
"Dread Pirate Roberts: Greatest Legend of the Seven Seas" Historical Analysis
"Love is like a Storybook Story" Documentary
"Miraculous Make-up" Featurette
The Quotable Battle of Wits Trivia Game
"As You Wish: The Story of The Princess Bride" Documentary
Cary Elwes' Home Movies
Original 1987 Featurette
Vintage Making-Of Documentary
Original Theatrical Trailer
8-Page Fezzik's Guide to Florin - Collectible Booket

Yeah, I'm sure I'll be getting this on my Xmas list! The picture ratio is set to be 1.85:1, 16:9 by the way, just to make that clear.

Does anyone else share my love of this film?

You know I do.... I may have to purchase it.

"I am also left handed"

Excellent news!!
I'm off to preorder a 'Dread Pirate Edition' right now...
respect Rich

Any respectable dvd collection without the princess bride dvd is empty without this superb classic.

i still think they movie is so good because the first five mins are truelly awefull and lead the watcher to believe the film will be crap....

then...shaazaaammm it sorts itself out

Oh this is fantastic news! I absolutely love this movie and my daughter shares the same enjoyment.

Even though it won't come out till after her birthday, I think it'll be something perfect to surprise her with. No doubt my pirate loving girl will want the Dread Pirate Robert's edition!

Pablo says, "any respectable dvd collection without the princess bride dvd is empty without this superb classic."

Pablo's right, so now that there will be a new DVD release, I will wait for that one to add to my collection.

Talk about quotable quotes! ;-)

I can see a "favourite Princess Bride moment" feature coming up!

Ehr actually, since this topic was opened I have been on the lookout for the DVD (not the new one) as I havent seen the film in years. Got one at Woolworth's today for a very cheap £3.99 and will watch it now!
