Star Trek XI dead...again

StarTrek.jpgThe script for Star Trek XI is officially dead, and that's from the screenwriter Erik Jendresen. He's written a script for the new Star Trek movie that would be a beginning tale (another beginning) and no one's interested.

According to SyFy Portal through Dark Horizons:

...since the executive shakeup at Paramount, the project has been abandoned. Jendresen shares some of his thoughts with SyFy Portal today:

"The notion was to do a prequel to the original series and fill that void with, ostensibly, a trilogy. Three films, which all would deal with Kirk's progenitor, a man by the name of Tiberius Chase... We wanted to reveal the actual cause of that war [the Romulan/Human War], which was surprising to all involved at the time. We simply wanted to reveal the truth behind that startling incident" said Jendresen.

He goes on to say that it's essentially dead because it's not moving. Strong insight there.

Personally there's only one way to go with Star Trek, kick the idiots who messed up the previous series who are still in control out into the street. Invite in some new talent to either write and direct a new feature followed by a series, or rewrite some of the Enterprise series and do it right with the same cast. They'd love it, the fans would love it, I know I would. Otherwise we're just headed for more schedule messing and poorly conceived features.

I would love to see the Enterprise cast back in action. I would also like a theme song that is an actual score not a shit ballad.

I'm not in the "STAR TREK TNG movies suck" camp. I'll tell you the truth, man, GENERATIONS, FIRST CONTACT and NEMESIS are in the top 5 movies of the series for me. I think there was nothing wrong with their movies except the fact that INSURRECTION was just a severely bad film. everyone misses from time to time.

the fact that star trek is dead in the water is incredibly unbelievable to me. I think, however, the fault lies with the writers of the last 2 tv shows, except for the VOYAGER writers. ( i'm talking DEEP SPACE 9 and ENTERPRISE. They destroyed a continuity that had been flawless for 35 creative years when they mucked up the history of the first enterprise and such.

I say bring Leonard Nimoy and Johnathan Frakes back to write/direct and a new crew, led by captain Janeway. but that's just me, man.

Good reasons, mogulus, but yet arguable. I haven´t seen Enterprise, so I can´t confirm what you say, but I must disagree about DS9. I think it´s the most spectacular and epic series of all the franchise, and I don´t think it breaks the continuity... at all. O´Brien is there. Worf is there. Sisko lost his wife in Wolf 359. The cardassians are fully developed. There is a brilliant homage to the Tribbles episode for the 30th episode. There are episodes dedicated to the Mirror Universe (lacking in TNG). The dominion war it´s not only awesome, but it furthers the development of the klingon´s history. Sorry, but I don´t see any failure in continuity in DS9: I see Star Trek at his best.

But I concur with many things you say in your post. I also can´t believe why Star Trek is in coma.

I have not seen an episode of Star Trek, and do not know now anything about this series but I am willing to be converted. I have only heard about Klingon boxing, now what is that all about?

Every Trekkie will tell you the same, Simone. If you want really introduce yourself to Star Trek, watch some episodes from The Next Generation, with Patrick Stewart as Picard.

I lend you a perfect introductory guide: 50 great star trek episodes. Check out this website.

I agree with most of this list. It´s a perfect "greatest hits" collection.

Ehr, thanks Peter. ;-)

Simone I'll make it simpler for you, just watch any Star Trek film with an even number after the title or First Contact.

LOL @ Morbius. So can I borrow your collection when I visit Wales next Morbius? I promise to return it! ;-)

You left the word "Eventually" out of that request pal. :-)

Let me rephrase it then;

"I promise to return it eventually when I get around to watching them!" ;-)

if i hear the story that the want to make a movie
abouth the young kirk and spock iam affraid they are
going to killing the Star Trek Francishe , i believe its time to let rest star trek for the time being and
bring it back when the time is rigth for it

I will say that around the web, though it's ad odds with what I say, DS9 IS the favorite for ALOT of people...so it obviously has more merit than I gave it credit for. By breaking the continuity the main problem I had was that the show Enterprise was supposed to be the first enterprise ( I'm going on what I've heard, so correct me if you need ) , while there were statements in previous shows that the Kirk enterprise was the first.

Most fans say the continuity was actually altered with the events of FIRST CONTACT, so I can't go lobbing "anti continuity" bombs at this subject any more without hitting one of my favorite flicks.

DS9, you live... for now...
