Tarantino to direct Hendrix movie?

QuentinTarantino.jpgThe news that Quentin Tarantino has signed to direct a Jimi Hendrix biopic sounds like a bizarre marriage, yet the more you think about it the more interesting the idea becomes.

The rumour comes from Starpulse News Blog and reports that Tarantino...

...is huge fan of the script of the film, according to producers at Dragonslayer Films, and will team up with Hendrix's brother Leon to tell the story of the guitar great's life.

Tarantino will have full access to Hendrix's music and likeness when he starts shooting is scheduled to begin later this year in Seattle, Washington; New York, Toronto, Canada; and London.

It's a strange concept considering what Tarantino is famous for, but could he pull it off? Looking at his schedule it certainly looks as though he could pull it on board. Killshot is in post production, Grind House is filming for completion 2006, Hell Ride is in pre-production for completion 2007, and Inglorious Bastards is announced with nothing moving, not even the completion 2006 date.

Chances are that IB will slip from 2006 anyway and that really only leaves Grind House filming, and the other two projects are Producer credits only. I'm sure he could squeeze this in. Yet that big question still remains, Tarantino doing a biographical movie...could he carry that off without over stylising it? Tarantino on Hendrix does sound strangely right.

I must say that there's been precious few productions which made me stick my neck out and say they'll succeed, but come on!

Music's single most enigmatic personality brought to the screen by arguably the most revolutionary modern director? This thing is gonna be a money printing press for the studio. Anyone who has any deep seeded interest in music must say that this is gonna at least tweak their curiousity if not send them into an obsessive frenzy.

As a huge Hendrix fan, I am seriously stoked for this thing.

Casting anyone?
(Whoever says Jamie Foxx will be killed in their sleep)

Can Tarantino carry anything off without it being overstylised?

As a huge Hendrix fan myself, I'm more than faintly horrified at this proposition. I really can't see it working out.

Hey James, if you're a Hendrix fan have you caught that "a film about Jimi Hendrix" yet? Check out the DVD reviews to find it.

I saw it on video years ago. I must check it out again on DVD.

I am more concerned as to who they'd get to play Hendrix!

There's a strong suggestion that Tarantino isn't going to be directing this film.

AICN through Entertainmentwise are saying that "friend" of Tarantino's asked him and he said absolutely no way is it true.

Perhaps early speculation to try and get the Directors attention. Perhaps it worked, perhaps he's thinking about it now.
