Transformers Cast grows

Transformers.jpgMore Transformers movie casting news with a few rumours about who is going to fill those previously touted roles in the casting call.

According to the cool guys at IGN:

Jon Voight is in talks...Keller as the U.S. Secretary of State...

...Michael Clarke Duncan, is closing in on the role of "Figueroa."...Chief Warrant officer in the Army...Close team member of Lennox."

And who is Lennox? Sources indicated that Vegas star Josh Duhamel has a lock on the role of the young military commander.

Bernie Mac is the frontrunner for the role of "Bobby Bolivia."...

...Tyrese as "Epps"; John Turturro as "Simmons"; Rachael Taylor as "Maggie," previously described as a super-hot and super-smart codebreaker for the government; Megan Fox as "Mikaela," referred to in a casting notice as Sam's love interest; Travis Van Winkle as "Trent"; and John Robinson as "Miles."

You can see some of the casting calls in this previous article.

There's nothing there that makes me overly excited yet, I'm still waiting for the news of the voice casting, after all let's face it the human characters are secondary in this film...

sooooo eventually there may be transforming robots...in this transforming robot film...right, mr. hammond?

I'm of the mind that we don't need human love interests...we need giant robots beating the pure T. living shit out of one another...

Nail. Head. Struck.

Exactly Mogulus. Add in "..with attitude and transforming a lot." and we have what we need in the movie.

One thought here is why isn't Michael Clarke Duncan signed up for a voice role? He'd be perfect for a Transformers voice.

yes some movies are just ment to be fun. I hope they don't miss the mark on this.

I could see MC Duncan being quite a few decepticons.
my biggest question is, will they have SOUNDWAVE?

the biggest problem facing this movie in my opinion is that the version of the transformers that people most love is the generations one and two, which are now outdated somewhat , with cassette tapes and the cars of that generation being somewhat obselete.

If it were up to ME, it would be a mid 80's "period piece" with the transformers of THAT generation being left intact.
I for one, would still pay money to see boomboxes transforming into robots and the like.

but it's not up to me, so I have to be realistic in expectations. Russel makes a great point that these types of movies ARE just fun, popcorn flicks. Nothing wrong with that.

man, oh man, I just can't wait!!!

Nope nothing wrong with fun, but when there's a huge base of existing material and fans you have to either go the opposite way or cater to them, otherwise it won't work. Our other discussion on Star Trek is a good indicator of that.

If I remember rightly, talk ages ago was that soundwave was in but his sizing, etc would change because it was all unrealistic...I'm not so sure though, he's have to turn into a 20ft MP3 Player!

I do remember that Megatron will not be a gun but more a cannon.

I think some of the "re-envisionings" are gonna be a point of contention with people of a certain age demographic. Two things can go wrong;

1) Fanatics who are so familiar with the original designs may be disgusted at any minor alterations.

Or....

2 People who can only vaguely recall the Transformers may not even realise it relates to the show if the production design doesn't strike enough of a cord with the cartoon. Addmitedly unlikely but people are a bit slow sometimes!!!

I personally think the redesigns could be even better than the originals, but whether or not this production has acquired the talent to provide such designs has yet to be seen, but I definitley think that it's the PREMISE of the series which was so cool, not the model of car.

Still, if Soundwave goes all "product placement" on our asses and turns up as an iPod Nano, I will deliberately soil the theatre seat I inhabit and leave. Have some respect!
