United 93 donates some profits
I already wrote about the controversy over the United 93 film trailer, and the news has been all over the place about how the cinema has now pulled the trailer and are no longer showing it. What I didn't know is that there are profits being made to a non profit organisation which represents some of the families.
The news from Boston.com comes the brief statement:
Families of Flight 93, a nonprofit group that represents some relatives, has praised the movie, and Universal Pictures has pledged to donate 10 percent of the first three days of the film's grosses to the Flight 93 National Memorial.
That's a good move, but only 10%? Surely the fact that the families are accepting it is a good sign that this film is a positive thing? The fact that I've seen nothing but positive comments towards it everywhere but on official news stories just backs that up.
Meanwhile Universal are totally standing by the film and the trailer. From Yahoo News Universal Marketing President Adam Fogelson says...
"We have received numerous e-mails (from family members) saying they appreciated the tone and sensitivity and honesty of the piece that is being presented,"...He added that the movie studio has no plans to change the trailer or make a new one as a substitute.
Update: 01/072006
Universal have now donated an additional US $250,000 to coincide with the DVD release of the movie.
