An American Haunting recut for US audience
I saw An American Haunting (reviewed) and I have to say that at the end it was a complete mess, the final twenty minutes destroyed that film, so it's good news that they've taken the movie to the editors for the US audience after trying it out on the Europeans.
According to the Director Courtney Solomon through Sci Fi Wire the recut is quite extensive. Oh, and can I point out to Sci Fi Wire that when a film is released in Britain that covers more than just England.
"The version that will be coming out here is literally wet. I've just finished it."......"I asked you guys, critics, and got feedback on the festival circuit and had a chance to re-do the music, color design and story. I recommend that every filmmaker take two months off and get away from it for a while and then come back and re-edit."
Here's another point, a release in Britain is a bit more than a festival release...You'd think that the UK didn't matter in terms of Hollywood! However after this poor release they've changed the film substantially. The commentary and viewpoint is changed from the priest character of James D'Arcy to the mother of Sissy Spacek, which means D'Arcy is heavily cut. They've also made it less of a scare film and altered the ending explanation. Hopefully for the better and removed the utterly pathetic step by step explanation of the UK ending. D'Arcy is quite happy with his cut apparently:
I've seen four different cuts of this movie. I prefer this version. It makes much more sense. ... I'm in the film less, but I like the film more
More sense? Dear me, the UK cut was hand holding galore throughout the explanation. I'd be interested to hear what people make of this US version.
