Emily Rose team turn to satanic cults
Devil's Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three is the true story of the court case of three teens who were found guilty of murdering three children in Arkansas and the accusations that they were involved in a satanic cult, and it marks the next movie for the team who brought us The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
According to Empire:
Dimension has nabbed rights to the book Devil’s Knot: The True Story Of The West Memphis Three for the duo [Scott Derrickson and Paul Harris Boardman] to co-write and for Derrickson to direct. The book, by Mara Levitt, follows the case of three murdered children and the Arkansas teens charged with killing them. The three suspects were accused of collaborating in a satanic cult ritual, with prosecutors citing some of the Greatest Hits of dark influences in their evidence: Stephen King books and Metallica albums.
What is most interesting are the comments from the writers\director...
"...we are absolutely committed to only telling the truth, and not exaggerating to entertain," Derrickson told Variety. “This was the only way we'd make the movie, and Dimension’s Bob Weinstein was right in line with us. We all understand the gravity, the high stakes of the situation, and the story is not over."
With the murder involving children on both sides and the three who were found guilty still in jail with one awaiting his death sentance, this really is a strong and emotionally charged story, so it is positive news that the team are speaking so strongly about telling the truth. Is it me or is Hollywood becoming more and more socially responsible by the project? Of course, still being money led, but it's still a good trend isn't it?
