Gladiator the musical

Gladiator.jpgYes, it's hard to believe, but Gladiator is going to become a musical.

That's the story according to Digital Spy, and it sounds totally ludicrous!

The film will be adapted for stage by William Nicholson, who wrote the original screenplay, and the original Hans Zimmer score will be used.

Russell Crowe will not be taking to the stage as Maximus Deciumus Meridius; instead the part goes to Brian Stokes Mitchell.

Imagine the tigers leaping about the stage, people hacking and fighting as they sing, poor Christians being fed to the tigers as they sing away...Then again, this could be one hell of a musical!

Gerry Butler would have been a brilliant gladiator- who could also sing! ;-)

Hell, get Hugh Jackman!

He can do Broadway like the best of 'em!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKLAHOMA!

The Gladiators could be required to do a dance off instead of actually hacking each other to pieces.

Seriously though, done tastefully, I don't see a problem with this production. The original music. Original writer. I'd go see it.

Oh and not just "Oklahoma" Rynndar, didnt he play another role just 2 years ago, "A Boy from Oz", a musical based on the life and music of Peter Allen (ex- husband of Liza Minelli) I d'loaded some of the tracks off Napster, he sounded really well there too!

Yeah! I saw the James "Can never look at him the same way again since Will Ferrell started impersonating him" Lipton interview on Inside the actors studio, and this guy is huuuuuuugely talented!

Even if he hadn't been cast as Wolverine I can seriously see this guy making his career as a credible actor (Van Helsing aside) at some stage or other.

What I saw of that musical was great too. Great stage presence, great voice and cool dancer. Very few people could pull off that Logan/Allen range don't you think?

My first reaction when reading this post was laugther. I started picturing the movie in my head with the characters and crowd singing and it reminded of a Monty Python movie. LoL

Of course, this could actually be exciting and entertaining. If it makes it to LA at some point I would consider seeing it.

Hugh Jackman is versatile indeed, so you saw the musical I was talking about? WOW!

Russell Crowe will not be taking to the stage as Maximus Deciumus Meridius

Let us be thankful for small mercies...
