The Hitcher remake is a film that I really had hoped was dead. It's not though and the huge plot change is still there with announcement of the casting for the character who picks up the Hitcher.

According to Coming Soon the actress Sophia Bush (currently in TV's One Tree Hill) is to play the role. Yes, a woman. The part originally played by C. Thomas Howell.

Director Dave Meyers' new version will follow two young travelers who are tormented by a mysterious hitchhiker. Jake Wade Wall and Eric Brent wrote the script. Production is scheduled to start this June in Austin, Texas...

...Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing for Dunes, along with Charles Meeker and Alfred Haber. The company previously remade The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Amityville Horror.
