Jet Li and Jackie Chan in new movie!

JetLi.jpgAccording to breaking news Jackie Chan and Jet Li are scrubbing films from their schedule to team up together in the mother of all martial arts starrers. Dubbed the J & J Project for now, there's a teaser expected to debut at Cannes for the movie.

The exciting news comes from Monkey Peaches:

According to Hong Kong's Oriental Daily and The Sun, Jackie Chan and Jet Li have agreed to star in the same movie now only known as The J & J Project...An unidentified studio initialed the project, which has been in development for three months already. Jackie Chan will start working on the project after finishing Rush Hour 3. Chan's other projects, like The Shinjuku Incident, with director Yee Tung-Shing and the untitled project with Zhang Yimou may have to be postponed...Jet Li reportedly has turned down several Hollywood offers to make time for the project with Jackie Chan.

Couldn't Chan have done the decent thing and dumped that Rush Hour 3 film as well?

I guess I am the only person who thinks Jet Li should not touch a Jackie Chan movie with a barge poll. I know Jackie Chan is a great martial arts acrobat and a really nice guy, but his films are mostly weak and childish, contrary to popular belief he needs Chris Tucker to pull any kind of decent western audience in, because fantastic stunts aside his modern films have been pretty lame affairs. Li on the other hand has been putting out almost consistently good stuff and of all the Asian cross over stars he has taken the best western projects as well as made some good movies from back east.

Nope Bullet, I agree. Chan has become a comic version of his, still quite comic, original Asian character.

Li on the other hand has managed to give us some pretty strong roles, and films such as Hero and Unleashed are some of his strongest to date.

Meanwhile Chan brings us Rush Hour? I'm with you Bullet.

I have enjoyed films from both actors but they are not a natural match.

I have seen more Jet Li films than Jackie Chan's but will be interested to see how this partnership comes out.
