The rumour that there might be a Metal Gear Solid movie is now confirmed directly from Hideo Kojima the series creator. He had been keeping very quiet about it, but has now announced that there is a Hollywood film on the go.

From both Eurogamer.net and Kung Fu Cult Cinema comes the confirmation:

a HIDECHAN Radio piece during which Kojima, series creator, confirmed what fans have long wanted to hear: "We're going to do it as a movie."..."A Hollywood movie."...Kojima's been unwilling to farm out production unless he was happy with the conditions.

Looks like he's happy now then. Perhaps he knows who is going to be onboard for the film version, Kurt Russell as Snake anyone? Or perhaps he's just been given enough cash to let Hollywood walk away with the idea, destroy it, and farm it out as a half arsed attempt at nothing?
