Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D
The news that The Nightmare Before Christmas is to be digitised into computers and made into 3D is both interesting and quite sad. The beauty of this film was heavily down to the models used and the animated style, and so pulling them into a computer sounds very much against that, but then seeing it in 3D...
From Reuters through Yahoo News:
The digital release of the 1993 stop-motion animated classic is set for October 20......Burton and "Nightmare" director Henry Selick are involved in the digital remastering of the stop-mo feature starring Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town.
Well that is a huge saving grace actually, the news that Burton is involved, otherwise I would be really concerned about the loss of the magic of the film.
The work is in the early stages and the scanning is being carried out by ILM. There's also talk of some ghoulish designs for the 3D glasses that will also be collectible. I like that idea, and perhaps this might be the first 3D film I would actually consider going to see.
What do you think, good idea or another Hollywood destruction of a good tale?
