Perfume trailer odd and slightly disturbing

On the subject of trailers, here's a very odd one for a film based on another highly praised German novel, Perfume. I've never heard anything of this before, but the trailer is decidedly creepy and has some quite disturbing images in it...if you catch them.

The story, according to Cinematical...

...it's been "hailed as one of the most influential works of German literature in the past two decades" about a guy with the earth's best sense of smell but also, sadly, no personal aroma whatsoever. Ah, irony. He becomes obsessed with bottling the scent of a virgin...

Wooo. The full title Perfume: The Story of a Murderer coupled with the trailer does give you an idea of how dark it is.

The trailer is all in German by the way, but the film isn't. See if you can catch the star turns, I was quite surprised by some of the faces I saw in it considering I hadn't heard anything about this until now. You can see the trailer over at the official German site. See what you think, deliciously dark I would suggest.

The book was very popular in the 80s, it was written by Patrick Süskind. I liked it very much, and since I haven´t read it again since then, I am very interested in this movie. Indeed, I recall the book as disturbing, but also very evocative, and a fascinating material to work with. Count me in.

Hey Peter, is there any book out there that you havent read? *gasps*

Oh I know, Dan Brown's novels! LOLOL

i love this book! read it twice. did not know they were making a movie about this. wow! i am definitely watching this

Crikey! I was still back home then why didnt you pass it on to me???

I remember it being an amazing book. I'm interested in this film primarily because I can't imagine it working, at least not as a literal adaptation of the novel, so I'll be intrigued to see how Tykwer's gone about filming it.
