Portman, Law, Weisz and Jones for Wong Kar Wai film

WongKarWai.jpgWong Kar Wai, perhaps best known for In the Mood for Love and 2046, has assembled an impressive cast for his first English language feature called Mr Blueberry Nights. The film is set to star Natalie Portman, Jude Law and Rachel Weisz, yet none of them are the lead.

The lead of the piece falls to musician Norah Jones. Yes she will be the main character who meets the others on her journey. From Variety through Bits of News:

...after he has discharged his duty as head of the jury at this year's Cannes Film Festival, he'll be starting pre-production on his English-language debut, "My Blueberry Nights", a romantic comedy about a young woman, played by musician Norah Jones, travelling through America, looking for true love.

That's not all though, he has another English language film up his sleeve...

...also set to direct "The Lady From Shanghai" starring Nicole Kidman, and, again, Rachel Weisz, in 2007. That film is of course based on the same Sherwood King novel as the late great Orson Welles' 1947 version.

Straight into Hollywood with one hell of a bang. Mind you on the strength of his previous work he should be, the only worrying question is will Hollywood corrupt him? I think not, mainly because the film is backed by Studio Canal and not any major Hollywood profit based businesses...oh, excuse me, I mean studio's who care about producing good movies.

I have wondered ab out Norah Jones as she had been quiet from the musical scene, now she's an actress. Right.
