Schrader's harrowing Holocaust tale
Paul Schrader has signed up to direct another huge film with a controversial and moving story - this guy doesn't do bland. In a movie called Adam's Resurrection, Schrader will tackle a harrowing tale of the Holocaust.
According to Empire:
Adam Resurrected will unspool the tragic tale of a Jewish circus entertainer kept alive by his Nazi captors and forced to entertain his fellow Jews as they’re sent to their deaths. He survives the war, but ends up in an asylum for those who made it out alive, fighting to survive the madness all around him.Noah Strollman has written the screenplay, adapted from Yoram Kaniuk’s novel. Schrader’s currently looking for a lead actor and plans to shoot the film this summer in Germany, Romania and Israel.
This really does sound like a tough subject to tackle, and I hope he gets some really strong actors involved. Already you can hear the calls for awards coming before anything has even been burned to celluloid. I really enjoy his work and have a strong respect for him and his beliefs on filmmaking, so I'm dying to see this despite how much of an emotional journey the film sounds.
