Schrader's harrowing Holocaust tale

PaulSchrader.jpgPaul Schrader has signed up to direct another huge film with a controversial and moving story - this guy doesn't do bland. In a movie called Adam's Resurrection, Schrader will tackle a harrowing tale of the Holocaust.

According to Empire:

Adam Resurrected will unspool the tragic tale of a Jewish circus entertainer kept alive by his Nazi captors and forced to entertain his fellow Jews as they’re sent to their deaths. He survives the war, but ends up in an asylum for those who made it out alive, fighting to survive the madness all around him.

Noah Strollman has written the screenplay, adapted from Yoram Kaniuk’s novel. Schrader’s currently looking for a lead actor and plans to shoot the film this summer in Germany, Romania and Israel.

This really does sound like a tough subject to tackle, and I hope he gets some really strong actors involved. Already you can hear the calls for awards coming before anything has even been burned to celluloid. I really enjoy his work and have a strong respect for him and his beliefs on filmmaking, so I'm dying to see this despite how much of an emotional journey the film sounds.

I'm with you. If anyone can do this, Schrader can. I think this guy is one of the more pure artists still around today. He wrote Taxi Driver while he was living in his car for god's sake! This guy is self sufficient art. Art for the sake of art alone. No agendas.

I can't wait to see what he does with this story as I'm banking on his usual loyalty to the spirit of the script and it's intention. Sounds like an Oscar magnet.

On a side note Rich, I just started reading "Easy Rider, Raging Bulls". Have you read it? Dying to learn more about guys like Schrader and I've been told this a serious anecdotal goldmine. Can't wait to get into it. You can also get the feature feature length documentary on DVD. If you haven't seen it, you should. I got it wih the special edition 2 disc "Easy Rider".

Sorry man. No hyperlinks. My bad.

and so another very interesting subject may be used as propganda.

hope he gets his facts right AND makes an interesting movie.

This sounds promising. I hope Schrader succeeds, though, ultimately, the Holocaust is irrepresentable, as the monstrous Shoah doccumentary(Claude Lantzmann, 1985) proves so well.

Yet, Schrader is like Cronemberg, a must see who knows very well the dark depths and miseries of human life.

Why would Schrader be making propoganda?
When did he become a politician?

I have got to see Affliction first!!!

Fuck the critics. They're like eunuchs. They can tell you how to do it, but they can't do it themselves.
