Selleck says no to Magnum P.I.
Thank the lord that there's some sense in Hollywood as Tom Selleck has quashed any plans that he may appear in a film version of Magnum P.I. in either a leading role or a cameo.
According to Moviehole he's less than happy about it and say there's history with the studio that is making the new version so he's not interested. Essentially he's been trying for so long to get it made and it seems that the studio were less than interested, now they are, he's not. The quote is short and sweet and could be interpreted any number of ways:
"I won't be in it and I won't be doing some stupid cameo", Selleck tells The Irish Examiner
So that could be him quite matter of factly saying he won't be in, and he thinks a cameo would be a rubbish idea, or it could be that he's angry at the studio not asking him, or he's angry at the studio not getting his version going, or...
Whatever is behind it I think he's spot on the money. Why make an old TV series into a film? What does it have to offer? The series themselves were television gold, why would you want to ruin it in a damp and lucklustre atmosphere of remakes and sequels? Let the original stand tall and proud. After all what could be brought to the film version that's new or fresh? It'll turn into a big joke of the original, or something far too serious.
