Star Trek rumours

StarTrek.jpgThe rumours about the next Star Trek movie are going to be coming out hard and fast now because all the Star Trek fans are going to be dying to know what is going to happen to their beloved characters, particularly if they've just seen M:I:III. Now there's just the faintest of hints at the storyline.

Over at IESB, through Cinema Blend, they have a video interview with Greg Grunberg, long time friend of J.J. Abrams, and he's talking if Abrams isn't.

Greg Grunberg has admitted Kirk and Spock will be involved in the movie in re-cast, younger roles.

If he's right then the storyline is looking back, but from what has been said before it's not at the Academy days. Considering it's not even been written yet I think the whole plot speculation is a bit early. However signs are looking toward a prequel, just not as early as was first thought.

I'm excited about Abrams applying his magic to the series though, regardless of what current fans might think. I can see something more akin to Undiscovered Country (my personal favourite) over others in the series. Something with depth, meaning, real world relevance and some strong characterisations. Bring it on.

I will never give up, I want to see Starfleet Academy. I wanna know how Spock and Kirk, so different as they are, became friends. I wanna see fresh faces, and I wanna see the Enterprise in a cinema again.

I have a question, if I will watch Star Trek for the first time, should I wait till this film is released? Or should I do an express conversion?

Definitley start watching now. This thing will for sure be a retrospective and have many "nudge, nudge, wink, wink" moments and be rife with references to the "future". I'd get started now!

What have you seen already?

Rynndar, that's the thing, I havent seen any, I dont even know where to start.

Ohhhh! You've got so much ahead of you!

The right thing to do would be in chronological order of course but you should definitley get the original series first. Some people find it cheesy, but if can do old school you'll love it.

There's only a handful of seasons too so you can easily get up to speed real quick. I'd start there.

Original series, Original movies, Next Gen, Next Gen movies, then everythig else.

DS9 is a great drama but everything after that is missable and I wouldn't worry if you don't get round to it anytime soon.

Jees I should really revisit some of that stuff now that you mention it! I used to be such a boffin!

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

LOL @ Rynndar

I always seem to get the same response like what you've just given me now from those who are big time Trekkies after having told them that I havent seen any episodes but would love to be indoctrinated.

Well, it looks like I have to do that Amazon or Tesco DVD rental thing now!

Thanks for the tip! *winks*

The original TV series is the proper place to start Simone bit alas the DVD box sets are still a bit pricey. (So even I don't have them to lend you!)

However, I have most of the Trek Movies on DVD. ;-)

Will I like Star Trek more than Dr Who Morbius? *winks*

Well since as far as I know you have only watched one episode of Doctor Who...

That's why I was asking you! HMPFT!
