Tarantino wants Mickey Rourke in Grind House

MickeyRourke.jpgWord is that Quentin Tarantino wants Mickey Rourke to star in his new film Grind House. He thinks he'd be perfect for the lead and has been trying to get hold of him. At the same time Tarantino tells us some news about the back to back feature with Robert Rodriguez.

Slightly confusing messages though, I thought we had heard that Rodriguez had cancelled his half of the feature, however over at PR Inside and with Tarantino the news seems different.

Tarantino says, "He's kicking a** and taking names like nobody's business." The director hopes the new project will transport movie fans back to the days when they could see two films back to back at "ghetto theatres." He explains, "(You'd) see an exploitation double feature when they used to come out. So we're (Tarantino and Rodriguez) going to do two horror films and release them together, and set it all up like a real night at the movie theatre.

"All the intermission stuff will be there. Between the movies, we're going to do trailers for exploitation movies that don't exist... It'll be just like going to one of those movie theatres that don't exist anymore."

Interestingly Sean commented on that story that he had a hard time believing it, I thought much the same but mainly because we heard nothing from Tarantino. Now we have, and it's going forward. Perhaps this was just a delay after all? As for Rourke, I'm all in. Get him on screen as much as possible I say.

I think that QT and RR deserve alot of credit for bringing this guy back into the spotlight. The guy is one of the most serious and talented forces ever to grace a screen.

His presence is undeniable and his reputation a classic redemption song. Those who snubbed him over the past five years are now gonna be chasing him for those uber cool roles and because he epitomises all things slick.

This guy needs more leads, and people should be throwing them at him. His performance in Angel Heart was one of my favourite of all-time and his presence is as evident in the likes of Year Of The Dragon.

Second chances don't just happen to ordinary people. This guy is something special.

He was the only decent thing to find in Sin City. Well, okay, and Bruce Willis. But he was the real thing.

Rourke was granite in Get Carter as well...
