United 93 screening

United93_Poster.jpgI've just returned from a screening of United 93 over at the Omni Vue, and without giving too much away before writing the review I can safely say it was not an easy viewing.

It's tough and very emotional, and if it doesn't affect you on then you were either off the planet at the time or you have no feelings. I was close to tears on a number of occasions and came out of the cinema in an extremely sombre mood, and I still am despite listening to upbeat music all the way home. Mind you the first track on my player as I put the headphones on was Live with Overcome, a song that was a tribute for those who died on that day, some amazing coincidence indeed.

I have to say one thing to lighten the mood though, at one of the dramatic moments you see a passenger for the first time and I thought, my lord, it's Sledge Hammer. Yes, David Rasche is in this film as well as The Sentinel. Good to see him in some big titles...and that nicely broke the mood.

So I'll cover the news stories and then get to work on that review for you.

Late last week I went to the most surreal double feature of my life: United 93 and Mission:Impossible 3. In a bizarre kind of way, they work kind of well together. The preposterousness of M:I3 took the all-too-real edge off of U93 pretty quickly.

I had the exact same thought about Sledge Hammer. And did you catch the quick glimpses of Rebecca Schull - the older lady from the TV show "Wings" - as well?

U93 is really a great film and I'll be excited to see future work from Paul Greengrass. He's really establishing himself as a solid go-to thriller/tension/serious action guy.

Looking forward to seeing your review when it's posted.

Since United 93 seems to be brief, the really good pair would be this and World Trade Center. But perhaps, too much about it in a single session.

I'm not sure how the family members managed to get through "United 93." It was hard enough for me as a complete outsider. My favorite movie of 2006 so far.

Fuck the critics. They're like eunuchs. They can tell you how to do it, but they can't do it themselves.
