X-Files 2 gains new writer
I thought X-Files 2 was dead, but apparently not with the latest news that there's a new writer attached to the movie despite the overhanging legal issues between Chris Carter and Fox.
The news from SciFi.com through Coming Soon is positive indeed:
Frank Spotnitz tells SCI FI Wire that he has signed on to help write The X-Files 2. "There's still a very good chance that we will all do another 'X-Files' movie," Spotnitz said. Spotnitz was an executive producer on the show..."We're not going into the mythology [in the sequel]," Spotnitz added, saying it will be more like astand-alone episode. "Of course, we will catch up with the characters and what is going on in their lives, but it's not about the alien conspiracy. It's not about that."
Okay, back up a moment. It's not about the alien conspiracy? That conspiracy that was built up throughout the series and then in the film pounding to an ending filled with questions and the promise of more? That one? So the sequel will be nothing to do with that and just a stand alone episode? Isn't that just a bit of a Dallas shower moment? Surely you have to carry on that story and give the fans some proper closure and explanations?
After revealing there are alien races in league with the Goverments of the world doing some very bad things to humans, wouldn't you be more concerned with that than chasing another X-File? Or maybe the story will start with Mulder and Scully turning to each other and dusting their hands off saying "glad we solved that alien conspiracy thing and saved the world...now..."
