Castlevania videogame becomes a film
You know if I was making movies out of videogames I would chose a much richer and modern game than Castlevania, but then I'm not Paul W.S. Anderson am I?
If his Deathrace 2000 [Correction, I think it's 3000 - Richard] remake isn’t next, he will turn to the popular video game franchise Castlevania. “What Paul has done, and he wrote it, what we’re trying to do is to sort of integrate a Dracula origin story with Castlevania, with the story of the Belmonts,” said Anderson’s producing partner Jeremy Bolt
...and if it is we can expect this 1980's side scrolling NES game to appear onscreen.
"We always try to give the fans something that respects their love of the game but also give them something completely new. So we’ve added a whole new spin to Castlevania...The whip is in it at the moment"
I just can't see it working, really. It's a side scrolling poor graphics game, how is that going to translate to a movie and how is Anderson going to be true to the material the story claims? Blocky characters onscreen?
Still, the story from CanMag does suggest that Anderson steeps himself in the material he's adapting. Bolt tells us that he would play the Resident Evil game in the dark, and played it well before telling him about the idea for the film.
Compared to Boll, perhaps Anderson isn't that bad after all?
