This is labelled rumour, and in big bold flashing lettering. According to some reports after the big rumour of Ben Affleck being approached to play the new Captain Kirk in the new J.J. Abrams Star Trek film, the rumour mill is now throwing Matt Damon in the ring for the hallowed role as Captain.

The rumour comes from The Insider through CanMag. Frankly though I really can't see it myself.

I'm told J.J. ABRAMS is very interested in casting the Oscar-winning Damon as a young Captain Kirk in the upcoming 'Star Trek' movie that he's directing and producing. He's so interested that he's apparently already sought support from the original Kirk, WILLIAM SHATNER. "Shatner gave his blessing," my source says. "J.J. got his approval."

Mmmm...I'm hugely sceptical. I just can't see Damon in this role at all, can you? I don't even see Abrams being in a position to think about cast this early, and I'm not sure if he would pick Damon. This is heavy rumour and speculation, and I personally don't think it's going to happen, do you?
