The remake...sorry adaptation of the comedy musical Hairspray seems to be heading forward with great speed as it gains more cast. For those of you who haven't been following the news, like myself, here's where we are.

The casting comes from USA Today through Coming Soon:

Amanda Bynes has been cast as Penny Pingleton...to be directed by Adam Shankman...Travolta will play Edna Turnblad and Queen Latifah will play Motormouth Maybelle...

...based on New Line's hit Broadway adaptation of the film, which debuted in 2002, and went on to win eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book and Best Director.

The news is only interesting to me because Travolta is on the cards, and seeing him back in a musical role will be interesting. Other than that I've no desire to see this remake, what about you musical fans out there?
