Alba joining The Eye?
News has it that Jessica Alba is in talks to star in another Asian remake that has been sitting on the production shelf for some time, The Eye.
The Eye is a remake of the Pang Brothers original Gin gwai (The Eye) which follows the tale of a blind woman who has an eye transplant, only to find that as her sight returns she begins to see things that the previous owner saw...spooky. It's a pretty good film, although the ending isn't as strong as the rest of the movie, some of the effects used to scare and creep you out are particularly good. There's a big street accident that is based on a real life incident as well, just to add to the creep factor!
Previously Renée Zellweger was attached to star, but she dropped out and the project went on hold over at the Cruise/Wagner production offices. Now though, according to Sci-Fi Wire she's in negotiations for the role.
Sebastian Gutierrez is on to rewrite, and he's also got Snakes on a Plane and Rise on his sheet, so perhaps this might turn out to be quite strong. David Moreau and Xavier Palud are up to direct, they have just completed Ils (review), a horror-thriller.
Another Asian remake mistake, or could this rank up with the (two?) good ones?
