Bana not in Hulk remake

EricBana.jpgDespite the comments that Eric Bana made on being keen to be involved in a Hulk sequel, the word is out that Bana won't be turning green and expanding again in the Hulk sequel movie.

According to Cinescape through Rope of Silicon, comes the news:

...Bana is definitely not doing it - his contract was with Universal, and so on - so they're going to get a new Hulk. They're not going to be auditioning, but merely 'going out' to names. Should've guessed. Apparently the following guys could be either in consideration or in talks for the role : Dominic Purcell, Brendan Fraser, Adam Garcia...

Eh? What a strange collection of names, although if Fraser beefed up with muscle or CGI I could visualise it, but still. Mind you, this new Incredible Hulk is going to feature less brains and more brawn. Just ninety minutes of him running along smashing things...woo...colour me green and slap me in a cinema seat...Bana or not, I'm just not looking forward to this.

Why didn't they try to learn from the first film rather than just do a ninety degree turn to go in a completely different direction? There were some great things in the first movie, and some very bad things. I didn't think the overriding problem was the lack of mindless fighting. What did you think about it?

You've got it spot on Rich.

It's not that the film wasn't action packed enough, I think the tone just needed to be lightened a little and there's no way they couldn't have done that with a sequel.

This cannot endear many fans, it just seems like they're admitting what seems to be a mistake, and taking a mulligan on the whole thing. Pity really, would have loved to see Bana do a sequel. Had so much potential.

They took the cheap way out. Two separate hulk movies in the space of 5 years or so? What a waste of talent and resources.

I have no interest in a mindless bash 'em up movie for Hulk 2.

Hulk 1 is a curiosity that actually stands up better over time. I hated it at the movies but I've seen it a couple of times since on DVD and it improves with each viewing. Other super hero movies I liked on first viewing (Spider-Man - either one, Batman Begins, Daredevil) I just can't sit through again. Go figure!
