Clive Barker's new horror videogame

CliveBarker.jpgClive Barker's Undying videogame was a cinematical experience on the computer, its story played out like a movie with all the game interaction you'd expect...it's also damn scary. I really enjoyed it, although I was continually being freaked out by it. Actually, I've just talked myself into trying it again! News today is out that he's set to repeat the experience as he's signed a deal with Codemasters game company to develop a game called Jericho.

Plans are, according to The Hollywood Reporter through Reuters, that Jericho will be another adult title (no not porn) and will feature an open world with the player being able to explore multiple paths simultaneously. Eh, simultaneousl? Well that's what it says!

Jericho will feature a quest within a mysterious land called Jericho, the center of which holds some powerful evil. The player will serve as a member on a special forces squad that wields traditional weapons and magical abilities on their mission to reach the center and save humanity. The game is currently scheduled to ship in late 2007 for next-generation consoles and the PC, and Barker also noted that the concept could also be made into a film at a later date.

Barker spoke on the game and gives quite a cryptic overview.

I don't want to give too much away just yet, but the concept is that somewhere in northern Africa there is a walled city which is not just a walled city but walls within walls within walls. It's like Russian dolls, spaces within each other, and trapped inside each space is a slice of time where the warriors of good have gone against ultimate evil and have lost...

...Is there a movie in it later? Sure. But what it has to be is what it's going to be first, an absolutely killer game

I'd really look forward to this, Undying was a superb mix of cinematic and gaming worlds, and with the new technologies available to Codemasters this could well become another great game. Then there's the added bonus of it becoming a film too with Barker's involvement following it through the project's lifecycle. I'm in.
