Depp departing Hollywood
According to reports Johnny Depp is looking to take a break from Hollywood and tread the boards and tackle Shakespeare to play Hamlet on stage.
I honestly think that this would be a superb move, not for Depp, but for those watching his Hamlet. He's an amazing actor and for him to have not played such weighty and important roles such as this before is somewhat confusing. He's always loved the slightly unusual roles, and we've seen some excellent performances, but seeing him in something this revered would be something I would really want to see.
In a way it will be a shame that a general audience won't get to see this, however depending on where he's taking the run of the play I would recommend going to witness this. It may be a one off in his career. From Softpedia news...
Depp told the press that Marlon wanted him to follow an acting career on the theater stage so that he would never have to live with the regret of not having done it. The legend himself confessed to Depp that he had always dreamed of taking on the challenge that Hamlet represents (or any one of Shakespeare's characters, for that matter of fact) but when he finally felt that he was ready, he was too old for it.
Now, Brando playing Hamlet would have been an amazing draw, and it's a superb story that Depp was inspired by him to tackle the role early. Would you go and see this based purely on Depp?
