Deschanel plays Minnelli and Joplin

ZooeyDeschanel.jpgPrevious stories have had Britney Spears and Pink in the running for playing Janis Joplin in her movie biography, however rumour is breaking that Zooey Deschanel has scored the role in The Gospel According to Janis.

According to Pop Bitch through The Wow Report, director Penelope Spheeris chose her over the others. To be honest her closest rumoured competition were Scarlett Johansson and Lindsay Lohan, but Lohan would take the role far too personally, however it would have been good to see Johansson taking on such a different role.

So Deschanel it is, very allegedly. What do you think, a good choice for Joplin? Interestingly she's currently playing another musical icon, Liza Minnelli, in Simply Halston, and that really is a fine match.

Zooey Deschanel as Liza Minelli is an excellent fit but I really can't see her as Janis Joplin.

I think Dechannel is a fantastic actress, and would love to see her play Janis Joplin. Have been a fan since seeing her in 'Almost Famous' , and loved her in 'Eulogy'. Great news, fingers crossed it's true...

She's certainly a good actress, I just can't see her as Janis Joplin. Maybe I'll be proved wrong - I hope so ;o)

Richard, her name sounds a tad familiar. ;D

Oh look, everyone else has just noticed this story, see Coming Soon have just published the story because Production Weekly did. This happens so often I wonder why I don't start a regular column "we already knew"...

...which you did! ;P
