Doom Patrol movie

DoomPatrol.jpgThe DC Comics team The Doom Patrol is a band of superheroes with strange powers, much like the X-Men but a bit less serious. There's word out today that they are headed for the big screen. Surprise, another comic adaptation.

I know nothing of the Doom Patrol but their silly names, from Coming Soon:

...the Doom Patrol is guided by a wheelchair-boundmentor in fighting evil. Characters include Elasti-Girl, Negative Man and Robotman.

Oh god...I'm guessing Elasti-Girl is Richard Reeds, Negative is the Invisible Man, and Robotman is, well, a cyborg. Where's Handbag Man, or Campo Man? Okay, I'm being unfair, according to stories aroung the web the original series in 1963 was very camp, but they've undergone a refit of late and become much darker. Here's hoping that much really is a lot.

In fact the word is that they have become even darker than the X-Men, so keep it that way, drop the silly names, and we might have a good basis for a film here. Any DP fans out there that can persuade me on this one?

But this has already been done!!! It was Mistery Men. It´s funny how, when a genre promises success, they exploit every possibility.

Even the most bizarre of superheros will have a movie one day or another. Well...

Its about time they do a Justice League movie, that will be so kewl!!!!

After Superman surprised even me with lackluster box office returns ( man I was eating some serious crow when It didnt' break 100mil in it's first weekend ), I wonder how much appetite Warner Bros. will have for investing in superhero movies?

If Doom patroll is done, and done 100% right, it could work. But there are big big problems.

First problem: What identity does Doom Patrol hope to bring into the movie? The funny? The dark? What will they go for?

Second problem: With nigh no recognizable heroes, they wont' have ANY automatic pulling power.

Thirdly: Without a sizeable budget to use to do things 100% right, are we goign to be left with Mystery Men lite? Or a lackluster Xmen?

I'm not damning it...but I am skeptical.
who knows. Maybe it could be fun to see a superhero movie where we DONT' know the characters for a change.

You all are a bunch of idiots.
Who are the Doom Patrol? Are you kidding me?
If you don't know who Grant Morrison is and what he did to the Doom Patrol - then I feel sorry for ya!
Doom Patrol of the 1990's was brilliant and written for adults. It made the X-men look like child's play. Even the Justice League stood aside and let The Doom Patrol handle it when the endless-haunted painting ate Paris, France. Actually the JLA was lucky - since The Quiz would have defeated all of them in seconds - since The Quiz has every power you can't think of.
If they ever made this comic book into a movie it would have to be rated X due to it's sexual content, graphic and demented scenes; and not to mention just how scary this movie would be.
The comic book used to give me nightmares.
You see, there was a campy/crappy version from the 60's that got a revival in 1989. But the writer was clueless as to what to do with the characters - so DC gave it to Grant Morrison starting with issue #19. Now if they took Grant Morrison's writings and turned them into a movie with David Lynch directing - GET OUT OF TOWN! You will have people running mad for the doors - scared out of their minds!
The Evil Brotherhood of Dada LIVES!
It was the absolute greatest comic book series ever written. Nothing can touch nor tarnish such a masterpiece.
Grant stopped writing the series at issue #74 or #75.
Grant Morrison is a god among mortals!

BTW - NO, NO, NO!
Please don't insult "The Doom Patrol" by comparing it to the "Mystery Men". They have nothing to do with each other. "Mystery Men" was a bad joke for starving actors that needed to pay bills.
Once "The Watchmen" movie comes out then everyone will finally flock to Grant and ask him to pen a DP script. I hope David Lynch is asked to direct - wow! Talk about NIGHTMARES!!! A live Doom Patrol movie - HOLY-COW!
I hope the rumors are true!

Okay Gimball, luckily for you I kept reading after you called us all idiots!

You haven't persuaded me, but I am curious about the comic now and might take a look.

You are right though, between Dark Knight and Watchmen, we could well see the comic book adaptation coming of age and the road opened for more bigger budget adaptations.
