Doug Jones for Silver Surfer

DougJones.jpgThere's a huge rumour on the Net, and I emphasis the word rumour, that Doug Jones is to be cast as Silver Surfer in the new Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer movie.

From someone who just emailed AICN comes the rumour. They say that the convention booker for Jones, who played Abe Sapien in Hellboy, is saying Jones will be doing the motion capture for the Surfer.

So the first thing is that this makes perfect sense. Jones is used to doing this kind of work and has proven how good a physical actor he is without even seeing his face. That really does substantiate the rumour.

Yet the worrying thing for me is that they continue to mention full motion capture. I was so clinging to the hope that Surfer wouldn't be full CGI, and that perhaps they might just go the way of the films that do provide the most convincing effects, those that combine physical effects with CGI. I would like to see someone acting the role in a suit with CGI effects overlaid. Then what do I know, perhaps FF will have the huge budget to make the effects of Surfer look realistic.

Doug Jones would be a great choice if this is true. I agree with you that a suit with CGI effects overlaid might be best the best idea, otherwise things tend to get a bit Video game like.

Here's Doug Jones' official site with notice of a big casting announcement coming soon.

His ability to act without appearing in the flesh is proven and for that he will do a great job.

however why the hell do we keep getting playstation games like FMV converted into a movie.

is there anybody out there that can film on location using that days weather and climate with real people/cars/trees/skyline/etc and cut it into a film..... rant over.
