Fiennes downs the Red Baron
Here's a remake I am interested in, The Red Baron (Der Rote Baron) is the story by Nikolai Müllerschön of the German World War I fighter pilot, Manfred von Richthofen, who was reveared for his flying skills and number of kills made, and Joseph Fiennes has signed up to play the man who shoots him down in the new film version.
The story comes from Variety through Coming Soon, and tells us that Matthias Schweighöfer will play the Baron and Til Schweiger his flying partner.
Give this a decent budget ($22.5 million announced) and effects and we could really see something that looks visually exciting as the early fighters battle in the skies. However what I would also like to see is that there's a healthy respect kept for the history of the time, and something slightly more educational comes out of it. I don't mean being preached to, but understanding what it really was like to be a fighter pilot in those days and defend your country, on both sides of the war
