Filmstalker: Halo Master Chief casting rumour

There's a rumour just appeared about the possible casting of Master Chief in Halo, and it just doesn't feel right.

The rumour comes from an unnamed source over at Dark Horizons through UK IGN FilmForce, and goes something like this:

Oscar winner Denzel Washington is rumored to be up for the role of "Master Chief"...comes on the heels of the news reported earlier this month by the Associated Press that Washington had met with filmmaker Peter Jackson in New Zealand to discuss working together.

Well I think that's a stretch frankly. Washington was approaching Jackson to ask if WETA would do the effects for a project he is directing (previous story), and I don't think Washington would be signed up as lead actor and director on the project and then head over to ask Jackson (the Executive Producer) if his company would create the effects, it just doesn't make any sense. Let's not even touch on the ground that Washington wouldn't play the action lead in a film like this.

No, I think this one is rumour galore. I still love this rumour I reported on in my old writing role from way back...

Ridley Scott to direct, Samuel L Jackson as Captain Johnson (continuing his games appearances after his performance in GTA: San Andreas), and Ed Harris (a fabulous actor) as Captain Keyes.

The only one that even makes me think "this could be possible" is the Harris as Keyes rumour...the rest? I just don't see them. What do you think?

All way too good to be true I reckon. That said when I heard the rumour that Jackson was going to produce it I said the same thing.

I really want this one to work cos Halo was hands down the most involving videogame plot I ever played.

The thing I'm most intrigued about is will we see Master Chief's face? Never seeing his face in the game worked a treat as an immersive device, allowing you to put yourself (literally) in his shoes.

But in a movie its next to impossible to create sympathy/empathy with a character when you can't read the emotions on their face.

I'm guessing we will, but I think its unlikely to be as big a name as Washington, plus it just doesn't fit for him. C'mon P.J. prove me wrong!

I would certainly hope we don't see Master Chief's face. Instead, get some muscle-bound GIANT of a man to fit the suit, and a fabulous voice-actor to, well that's self-explanatory...

Hi,

I don't think Denzel has the talent to perform Master Chief. And I know somebody who would love to play him, Shane Rangi, better know as General Otmin from Narnia, and several roles in LOTR. He would love to play Master Chief he told me on july 22, 2006. So Peter Jackson, take Shane, you know he can do the job!!!!

denzel is black right? in the book they say when the master chief was little he was a pale white boy with freckles and a gap in between his 2 front teeth
